Fei Liu

BIOGRAPHY

From a young age Fei Liu was always creative and artistic. His life experience has shaped his perceptions of jewellery design, which in turn has ensured his jewellery is truly unique. Throughout his childhood Fei showed an interest in art and enjoyed drawing and painting. At the age of 11, Fei Liu became interested in Western art styles, using acrylic and oil paint. At this young stage in life, Fei realised his love for the arts and wished to pursue a career in it. A trip to Hong Kong at the age of 19 opened Fei Liu’s eyes to the opportunities available to him and in turn altered his ideas of becoming an artist. Fei became transfixed by gemstones, by their value and the idea that no two stones were ever the same. As a result of his new found interest, Fei decided to combine his passion for gemstones and art, leading him to study at Birmingham School of Jewellery. Fei completed his BA in Jewellery and Silversmithing; the degree not only gave Fei the tools he needed to design jewellery but more importantly taught him how to question and reinvent. After completing his education and courses Fei Liu launched Fei Liu Fine Jewellery in 2006. He designs his jewellery by combining his life and experiences in the west with his Chinese heritage; the result of this is visually creative pieces that challenge the conception of luxury fine jewellery. Since the launch of his own jewellery company in 2006, Fei Liu has grown from strength to strength. He has expanded to produce a number of collections in platinum, and silver, along with creating a Bridal collection and offering bespoke services for customers. His jewellery is retailed in boutiques throughout the UK along with recently launching into Liberty’s and Selfridges. In April 2009, east met west when Fei Liu launched his flagship store in Beijing. Fei Liu has become the first jewellery designer in the UK to have a stand alone store in China.
